We've all read tons of stories about the worst interviewees, worst resumes, stories about what an applicant should have done or did do. But how many out there are sometimes frustrated with the other end, the hiring guys, the HR, the recruiters? I'd enjoy seeing everyones' stories.
There are many things:
• The posting of blind ads
• Demands in ads that applicants give salary requirements or salary history in order to price candidates out who are applying in good faith
• The lack of any follow-up (even if a negative one) by the employer following the interview
• The employer changing the job specs after the initial interview
• The employer engaging in "bait-and-switch" of job responsibilities (related to above)
• The interviewer playing "head games" with the applicant (including trick questions)
• An employer advertising externally for a job that will definitely be filled internally
• The interviewer not being on time or organized for the interview -- or perhaps not showing up at all!
• The interviewer failing to bring with her/him application material emailed/mailed before the interview
• Interviewers who are not courteous or who are unprofessional
• Interviewers allowing frivolous interruptions during the interview
• Interviewers who fail to tell Security when the applicant will arrive
• Employers who fail to specify in ads that pay is unusually low for a given experience level
• Covert discrimination -- particularly with regard to age discrimination
• No receipt given for initial mailed or emailed application -- not even an automated message
• Employers insisting that applicant include dates of college graduation on forms (age discrimination)
• A verbal, unofficial offer of employment made, followed by a refusal to finalize officially
• Employers canceling the position entirely after the interview process is complete
• Interviewers who refuse to overlook minor job gaps in resumes, even in a weak economy
• Interviewers asking applicants to specify their weaknesses (no win situation)
• Employers engaging in deliberate scams and misrepresentations
• Middle management-level responsibilities given to interns to avoid paying seasons professionals
• Employers taking advantage of the weak economy by low-balling salaries.
